Buyer Beware

“Pedigree Papers!”
Please be aware any breed of dog purchased with no ANKC pedigree papers is not classed as a pure bred, ensure your Amstaff is registered with the controlling body of your state even if you only want a best mate/pet. Click here to be directed to the ANKC website where you will find a list of controlling bodies for each state.
Microchipping is also advised with the microchip number for the puppy on its ANKC pedigree papers, not just something printed from the breeders printer.
“Ataxia!”
Some Amstaffs can be affected by Ataxia. Ataxia testing is a must in Amstaffs.
Affected: May show signs at any given time.
Carrier & Clear: Are free from the Affects of Ataxia.
If you are looking to add a best mate/pet to your home, ask the breeder if they Ataxia test all breeding stock, if they do not, look for another breeder.
“Height & Weight!”
Height and weight is becoming an issue with Amstaffs increasing at a rapid rate, some breeders are deliberatly breeding for excess height and weight.
Breeding American Staffordshire Terriers for exaggerated height and/or weight will cause irreversible damage to Amstaffs.
Height: Dogs approx 46-48 cms (18-19 ins) at shoulders, Bitches approx 43-46 cms (17-18 ins) at shoulders is considered preferable.
Weight: What i consider to be good weight for mature Amstaffs in great condition:
Dogs: 20 - 28 Kilograms, Bitches: 16 - 24 Kilograms.
General Appearance: The American Staffordshire Terrier should give the impression of great strength for his size, a well put-together dog, muscular, but agile and graceful. He should be stocky, not long-legged or racy in outline.
This breed is larger than life, in mind and personality, not in height and weight, height and weight may hinder the larger than life mind and personality.
Please do your research on this truely awesome breed, The American Staffordshire Terrier, A highly versatile supreme athlete, not a body builder.
“Colour!”
Blue or any other colour are not rare colours in American Staffordshire Terriers.
Some breeders may want you to pay more for their "rare" colour, if so look for another breeder.
